I have done nearly no sewing in the past year. I've toted some unfinished handwork projects around to work on and done massive alterations (gained 20 lbs in march, lost 40 something in july-september- almost lost my pants in front of our very full conference room, complete with its glass walls/doors), but nothing fun. Now that I have a few free days (don't tell my hubby- he wants me to clean the house, silly boy!), I've been looking at simple ideas to do and have decided to do these, mostly for friends at work: Fabric Covered Thumbtacks Fabric Covered Office Supplies This Awesome Desk Calendar What to put it all into? A Hermes Kelly Bag, of course! |

How far could you go to cure your migraines? I think I might wait till the jury's out on this one (looks like they haven't even done trials). But if it helps, it helps, you know?

It's funny that they consider 'The Inland North' to be all one area (though I have gotten the Wisconsin question before-?). I've lived in about 6 places in NY/PA/MA and none of them sound anything like the others, Buffalo being the strangest, with all of the Canadian influences.

I have an obsession with minis of all types (this has to be part of my shopping problem stemming from Sephora). I'll get almost anything that is in a mini form. Makeup. Check. Office supplies. Check. Kitties, got one of those in mini too (Hermione's only 5 lbs). I just found this site, devoted entirely to embroidery minis. I have to admit that my favorite thing about minis in this context is that they have a function! They don't just sit on a wall and look pretty, they hold scissors, needles and a host of other necessities. And they come in a pretty package with your name on it.

Things in my personal life have been very stressful of late, so I decided that a simple project would be just the trick to divert my attention . I've been working on this 3D wallhanging with handmade flowers for a year and a half so I thought I'd pick up on that. It's a nice lunchtime project. And Hallelujah! the completed pieces are in my sewing room, whereas the incomplete are nowhere to be found. My hubby's idea of cleaning is finding 'places' for things. If it fits it's in its home...the ladies at the Interlibrary Loan office thought this was funny the first time I was blocked from the site (I think it takes 3 months overdue), but subsequent times, not so much. So tonite I'm busy pulling out the calico I can find (I have a ton of great scraps, but I digress... again) and starting a little mini. I just need to locate a pattern/ idea. I have the most adorable scissor holder I drafted up, maybe something to go with it...

This is not the first such example of this, but the most extensive writeup of a restoration I've found. I cannot understand why anyone would take a gown that old and decide to remake it! The audacity. The only reasoning I can fathom is that the guilty party did not understand exactly what they were doing, and that the gown was 250 years old. One can only wish. Just so sad. It is amazing to see the resilience in the fabric, that it has lasted all of these years, a remake 10, 20, 100, and then 250 years after its first construction and it only needs some pieces remade. Wow. |
